January 2008 Newsletter !
Dear Member I would like to update the membership on the many issues facing the
club this year. As many of you know, we are confronted with a major financial
burden with regard to the sprinkler law passé by the Mass. State Legislature.
After hearing our appeal, the Sprinkler Appeal Board rejected our motion and
we now mandated to install a system. We are also facing additional costs to
upgrade the porous roof hat has plagued our function hall for some time. We
of the Board of Directors are attempting to find funding mechanisms for these
and other projects. No matter how we proceed in that regard, the onus will be
on the membership to assist in our fundraising efforts to ensure a financially
stable future for the A.O.H. I am confident that we will be able to meet our
obligations. We have a busy schedule in store for the next few months. Please
check out the web site for upcoming activities. We encourage members to attend
our monthly dinners or host one yourself. We are also negotiating with Jarrod
Scot to perform at the club this spring. You may remember him singing downstairs
after the performance at City Hall. He expressed interest in doing a show at
the club this year. Unfortunately, he is unable to make it here from Ireland
on St. Patrick’s Day weekend. We are looking for alternative dates. This show
will definitely sell out, so get your tickets early. I would like to thank the
members of the Board for their time and effort over the past year. As usual
Neil Cronin devotes much of his time to plan and coordinate events as well as
fill in where needed. Bill Elwell also puts in numerous hours taking care of
the financial reports, I would also like to thank Penny Williams for all her
help over the past few years. Penny’s kindness and generosity to the club is
greatly appreciated. Please consider her company, Cloverleaf Caterers for your
next event. If you have any questions or comments please see me or someone from
the Board., as we are always looking for ways to make the A.O.H. a better place
in which to be a member. I wish everyone a happy, healthy New Year!
Fraternally,
David Breen, BA President
